04 Aug Cultura Pop no Brasil | Sidney Magal vira astro de uma comédia avessa ao realismo
Star Latin Lover (1979), a musical seen today as cult cheesy, singer Sidney Magal’s dating Brazilian cinema for years, but only now, in the second half, with the debut of Magal and ants, this relationship’s narrow and, judging by the first images, spread the good mood the screens, a promise of success. Written and directed by a tight script in the country, Newton Cannito, the film puts the interpreter of “Sandra Rosa Madalena” as a kind of Jiminy Cricket of an embittered retired for their choices. It is a breath of invention and mischievousness in a very connected to the chanchadas format genre scenario.
“The biggest addiction of Brazilian cinema today is not in comedies, is on realism,” argues Cannito. “It’s very realistic: the comedies are social, the social drama is … it’s all realistic Pacas. It has little room for confabulation. This film is a comedy, but it does not be addicted to realism. And it is at the same time, an autobiography, because the characters and situations that picture is inspired by my parents and relatives. Even my mother is there in the film. “
The basis of the film comes from a fable: The Ant and the Grasshopper, ie the contrast between those who live art and who lives as a laborer. In Magal plot and the Ants, the acclaimed actor Paulista NORIVAL RIZZO (series 9MM Sao Paulo) lives John, a retiree who spent his youth working in a factory. Older, grappling the demands of his wife and the lack of professional recognition, John relieves the pressure talking to his imaginary friend, the singer Sidney Magal. The cast also includes Mel Lisboa and Zé Carlos Machado.
“Basically, it is a story of ants learn that can also be cool to live as cicada,” says Cannito. “I tried to also escape the biographical movie mania. Everyone thinks it’s a biography of Sidney Magal. And he deserves a biographical, clear film. But we made another proposal: it comes as an archetype of the cicada: the person who enjoys life and teaches the workers to tan too. The narrative of this story will also be open to a magical side. I work with the burlesque unmercifully even without fear of popular comedy. “
